in development

If you have walked around Henlow churchyard in recent weeks then you can’t fail to have noticed the difference.

Before

A small but very dedicated team of volunteers have been working very hard at trimming back the vegetation and clearing weeds. The area where ashes are buried has changed almost beyond recognition. Once the churchyard is neat and tidy it is much easier to maintain on a regular basis. In theory it should be possible to mow the whole area without obstruction. This is why graves should be kept level and free from containers.

After

The aim is to bring the churchyard into line with the Churchyard Regulations 2004. These encourage fresh flowers and the planting of bulbs as symbols of the gift of creation and resurrection. The regulations discourage artificial flowers. Plastic and glass containers are not permitted, as they are safety hazards. A copy of these regulations can be seen on the church notice board and the diocesan website: www.stalbans.anglican.org

If you have any queries please get in touch with any member of the Churchyard Committee whose names appear below. The next working party will be on Saturday 13th November to clear leaves in preparation for Remembrance Sunday the following day. Please do come and help.

Committee: The Revd Sue Groom, Mr Peter Crawley, Mrs Jasmine Dorricott, Mr Dick Kilby, Mr Tony Rogers, Mr David Shelvey, Mrs Isabella Taylor, Mrs Pat Tomlinson and Mr Tom Vincent.
