CROWDS GATHER FOR HENLOW FETE
Saturday, 11 June, 2011
Congratulations and thanks to everyone who took part in the Henlow Fete held at Henlow Middle School on Saturday afternoon, which raised a grand total of £1,700 (as of Thursday, 16 June, 2011: watch this space for further updates). The fete was opened by our Priest-in-Charge, the Revd Sue Groom, followed by a series of superbly performed routines by the Shefford Majorettes, pictured lining up ready for action.
The church was open for a craft exhibition whilst crowds of visitors kept more than a dozen stallholders busy in the school grounds providing food, fun and games during the afternoon, which closed with the Grand Prize Draw being called with a 1st prize of £100 cash. Other prizes included a flight for two in a light aeroplane, a meal for two at The Five Bells and a Langford Garden Centre gift voucher.
Special thanks must go to all the members of the organising committee, co-ordinated by Issy and Tony Taylor working with Alan Painter, Audrey Staniforth, Heather Hill and Pat Tomlinson. Alan was there from the start, setting things up, responsible for liaison with the school and raffle ticket distribution; Audrey was the unseen face arranging the craft displays in the church in the morning and overseeing the arrangements for refreshments in the school hall during the afternoon; and where would we have been without all the stallholders and everyone who contributed so generously to them? Last but not least, those who quietly (or noisily, as the case may be!) helped to set up and, of course, clear up afterwards: all in all, a superb team effort resulting in a wonderful afternoon that was timed just right for the weather!
COFFEE IS SERVED!
Thursday, 2 June, 2011
Courtesy of Sue & Phil Moore, tea, coffee and biscuits are now being served after the service every Sunday rather than only on the first Sunday of each month. Please do stay after the services and get to know one another more informally.
SPONSORED KNIT
Thursday, 10 March, 2011. Pat Tomlinson writes:
Between them Betty Burling and Pat Birchall raised £145 for St Mary's at this event at St Andrew's last month. Our very grateful thanks to them both for knitting so well on our behalf.
